From the Rock

Rocks mean something to me. They’re not just a hard mass composed of minerals all throughout our earth, but they represent so much more. Sometimes they’re so big they make me feel like an ant, some are fun to climb, some are smooth and some have sparkles in them. They’re all unique just like everything on this planet.

Rocks are a thing of beauty and here’s what they’ve taught me...
Appreciation

Growing up when we traveled my Mama would say to us ‘pick out a rock to bring home’. It felt a little silly but now I understand. It wasn’t just a souvenir it was a reminder of the beauty of where we had been. Each rock was unique to the environment where it came from. My Mama loves God’s creation and she’s helped me appreciate its majesty.
We display them, use them as decor (sometimes we paint them) and fill potted plants with them to help hold water.
Even now when I travel, she always asks me to bring her back a rock!
Reliance

God is the only source of unbroken promises that I can rely on. He is never changing and always with me. He protects me and provides for me every minute of every day.
He’s give us his Word and even gave me friends that are sturdy that I can lean on to help me.
While my own understanding is weak, He is strong like a rock.
Flexibility

I often feel like I have the flexibility of a rock. So when I see them I’m reminded to soften, to embrace the interruptions and to have compassion towards others.
Rocks are very useful, especially in construction and in providing hard surfaces. I want to be willing to be used - even if it’s not in my plans. I want to be a supportive treasure to others that they keep.

Go outside, look at the rocks on the ground and even pick one up. Maybe you go for a hike and climb some. Hold a river rock and take in how smooth the water has made it. What do rocks mean to you?
