Last night I attended a broadway show with a dear friend. I jump at any occasion to get gussied up. Partly because I have the pieces hanging in my closet just waiting to be worn.

Dressing up is so much fun for me but a closet full of fancy clothes isn’t practical. When those special occasions arise it’s nice to have options as I often see ladies scrounging to find something and often settling and/or spending more than they’d like.

How I dress for fancy occasions

Wear it!

I was probably over dressed last night (Ryan says I’m always overdressed. I can not find the lie!). But I enjoy feeling pretty and life is just too short to wear boring clothes. If you have snazzy clothes, wear them. Maybe not to work or to a PTA meeting but for a night out or event.

We often save things like china, silver, jewelry and clothes when we could be wearing them far more often.

Who cares if you’re over dressed?

Purchase Savvy

When shopping and a special occasion piece catching your eye at a great price grab it! The occasion will come and you’ll be ready!

I find that these ‘fancy’ pieces go on major sale throughout the year. A majority of dresses I wear on vacation were purchased on clearance seasons ahead of when I’d be able to wear them.

Choose Versatility

Think about how you can style a fancy piece across occasions and seasons. Don’t purchase things too elaborate or showy to the point it’s hard to style.

Tops can be dressed down with jeans or up with a satin skirt. Statement skirts can be dressed down with casual tops (sweaters, tees, & denim) or up with an elegant top.

Dresses can be layered with fur, jewelry and styled with belts and jackets.

Tip: Be sure the cut/silhouette is forgiving so that if your figure fluctuates it will still fit!
